Are you planning to serve in the U.S. military after college? If you do, you may want to consider the Navy ROTC scholarship. This way you can obtain your undergraduate degree without having to spend all of your family’s fortune. As you know, college or university education is very expensive, so having this option is great, especially if you have the passion to serve your country.
The Reserve Officers’ Training Corps is the US military program that provides financial aid for students who are willing to serve the corps after graduating from the college. Navy ROTC Scholarship Details
In regards for Navy ROTC scholarship, there are three major categories of scholarship, which include the NAVY, Nurse, or Marine Corps. Below are the explanations for each category:
ROTCH Scholarship – NAVY
For this scholarship, you have to enroll in the education programs that interest the Navy. There are three tiers, which mainly about engineering majors, academic majors, and cultural majors. Most of the money goes to the first and second majors. The required qualifying scores to be eligible for this scholarship are:
- ACT: 21 Math; 22 English
- SAT: 520 Math; 530 Verbal/Critical Reading
Note: after graduation, you will be assigned in various warfare communities that are in line with your academic degree.
ROTC Scholarship – Nurse
This one comes with the same qualifying score required for the Navy scholarship. The difference is that you have to enroll in nursing academic program. Note: after graduation you will be assigned in the Navy Nursing Corps
ROTC Scholarship – Marine
The marine scholarship requires you to have a proper physical condition for the Marine corps standard. To be eligible for this scholarship you have to pass the Physical Fitness Test (PFT), good record, and have the ACT average score of 22 and SAT accumulated score of 1000 (from Math and Critical Reading). Note: after graduation you will be assigned as a second lieutenant in the US Marine Corps
Other general requirements
Aside of the technical requirements we mentioned above, there are several general requirements that you must fulfill. They are:
- First, you have to be a U.S. citizen
- You are at least 17 years of age
- Have a high school diploma
- Provide a complete transcript
For Navy ROTC scholarship, the whole application process can start as early as when you are on your junior high school. The deadline is usually in December. Visit the navy recruitment website for more information about the eligibility and application deadline.
The Navy provides both four-year scholarships and two-three year scholarship. The ROTC scholarship is one of a few scholarships out there that can provide you with almost anything you need during your college education. They cover full tuition fees, cover other mandatory educational fees, provide money for books, and even monthly allowance for each academic month. There are several exceptions, but in general the Navy ROTC scholarship is one of the best in the country.
