- FEA (Fund for Education Abroad)
The Fund for Education Abroad (http://www.fundforeducationabroad.org/) provides dedicated and general scholarships with awards up to $10,000. This one is specific for U.S. citizens or permanent residents who are currently studying in an undergraduate program from one of the universities or colleges in the United States. The minimum abroad study time for this program is four weeks. The deadline for this scholarship is available throughout the year, so they might be a good option if you want to have summer study abroad scholarships.
- CIEE Global Access Initiative (GAIN) Scholarship
The GAIN scholarship (https://www.ciee.org/go-abroad/college-study-abroad/programs) provides chances for students from lower class or diverse backgrounds to study abroad by covering the costs and curriculum requirements. Students with underrepresented studies may also apply to get the GAIN scholarship. According to its official site, the CIEE support full-year, semester, and summer study abroad programs and they have allocated US$1 million annually to help the students. For summer study abroad scholarships, the deadline is April 1st.
- SIT Study Abroad Pell Grant Match
Summer programs are available, as well as fall and spring programs. The deadline for the summer program from the SIT is April 1st. - Boren Awards for International Study
Africa, Asia, Eurasia, Latin America, the Middle East, and Central & Eastern Europe are the main target for the Boren Scholarships and Fellowships (https://www.borenawards.org/). This scholarship is focused on providing studies in various fields, but the students have to have an interest in learning languages, especially the ones that are rarely highlighted such as Swahili, Chinese, Portuguese, Russian, Arabic, Korean, etc. The minimum study time is six months, with $20,000 as the maximum award. The deadline is in early February.
- Diversity Abroad
The official site is DiversityAbroad.com, and they are providing summer study abroad scholarships as well as fall and spring season study abroad programs. With the help of the AIFS Foundation, students with suitable criteria can apply for this $500 scholarship. For the summer program, the deadline is in March. The criteria for eligible students are ethnically diverse students, students with disabilities, students with economic disadvantages, and first-generation students.

Other popular options for abroad scholarships are the Academic Program International (API) First Generation Scholarship, IES Diversity Scholarships, and The Benjamin A. Gilman International Scholarship Program. However, we haven’t researched whether they support summer study-abroad scholarships or not. That said, most of them provide general abroad scholarships.
